About Mark Slats

Mark Slats, who is originally from Australia, can be described as an adventurous man who participates in races and takes on challenges, aiming to become a full-time adventurer. Mark is mostly passionate about the ocean, being sailing, rowing or swimming. He also aims to motivate people with his motto being, ‘be stronger than your excuse’, encouraging people to start doing what they are dreaming about.

The Challenge

Mark took on the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge 2020/2021 along with his teammate Kai Wiedmer. The race took them more than 3,000 miles west from San Sebastian in La Gomera, Canary Islands to Nelson’s Dockyard English Harbour, Antigua and Barbuda. This annual race commenced in December with around 30 participating teams from all around the world. Their goal was to be the first boat to finish and so they did as well as accomplishing another world record! They finished in Antigua just after 32 days, 22 hours and 13 minutes after commencing on the 12th of December.

Mark’s Cause

Mark’s cause for the challenge was inspired by how his mother was diagnosed with cancer. He found out that the medicines for treatment are very expensive. Up to now they have worked with The Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Foundation who is researching and working on cheaper medicines to make it accessible for more people. Mark aims to help as many people as possible fight against cancer with the gathered donations. Mark also wants to start his own foundation. His target sum of donations was a total of €65,000. Although he reached his target, you can still help out by visiting his website, https://www.markslats.nl/, and donating a minimum amount of €10.

Donations

The donations were gathered throughout 2020 from people and companies located all around the world. One company, MrCasinova.com decided to dedicate their 2020 donations to this great initiative with the aim to help Mark Slats complete his goal. This company is a Malta-based affiliate website. Their passion and focus is to deliver guaranteed entertainment within the online gaming industry. One of their main goal is to give something back to the community. Hence why, other than providing entertainment, MrCasinova also connects a cause to it.

Following reports of the negative impact being caused around the world, the team at MrCasinova decided to introduce a new program where they donate £1 to organisations who are making the world a better place from each new player that refers to an online casino from their pages. A number of charities that have already benefited from theses donations include: Wildlife Victoria & Givit, Plastic Oceans UK, Earth Day and Defenders, as well as other Local Maltese Charities.
